Headaches & Migraines

There are many factors that can cause or trigger a migraine.
These triggers can be certain foods in our diet, internal triggers,
stress, or specific activities individuals engage in. While some people
have migraines as a result of one or several causes, for others all it
takes is one trigger. Migraine triggers therefore are different for each
person.
Some of the more common headache or migraine triggers are:
(A) Foods and Beverages
Foods and beverages are probably the most common headache
triggers. Since the list is rather lengthy, almost any food or drink can
qualify as a cause of headache and any other type of headache.
However, a study revealed that among migraine sufferers, only 15%
to 20% have demonstrated a particular sensitivity to food. Note that
food sensitivity is not the same as a food allergy. An allergy is caused
by a disturbance in the immune system by a food that is eaten, while
food sensitivity causes chemical changes in the body when a certain
food is ingested.
Not one agent causes the headache or migraine, but possibly a
combination of biochemicals – natural or artificial – that act during
times of high susceptibility. Owing to the presence of these factors,

eating a piece of chocolate may cause a migraine at one time but not
at another time. The amount also matters. Eating one or two
chocolate squares may not cause a migraine, but eating a whole box
would.15
